Skin Cancer Treatments

Cancer is tissue which grows at an uncontrollable and irregular rate. Basal cell carcinoma, squamos cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma make up the majority of skin cancers. There are several methods of treating skin cancer. These methods include excision and suturing, curettage and electrodessication (scraping and burning with an electric needle), cryosurgery (freezing), radiotherapy (x-ray) and Mohs micrographic surgery. The method chosen depends on the location of the cancer, its size and previous therapies.

Sometimes, having a skin cancer removed can leave a generous break in the surface of the skin. When this is the case, a cosmetic closure is usually desired.

We see many patients that are referred from dermatological offices, as well as individuals that feel more comfortable with a plastic surgeon managing the care of their face.
