About Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the few cosmetic procedures widely known and understood by the general public. It is by far the most frequently requested procedure. Patients request a change of a "family trait" or correction from a prior broken nose. Many times, accompanying a combination of twisting of the internal structures of the nose prevents the free flow of air through the nose. A combination of both internal surgeries to improve breathing can be coupled with external surgery for appearance, resulting in the most pleased patients that our practice has shared. In almost all patients, incisions are hidden inside the nose and the "traditional packing" is no longer necessary. A small dressing around the nose is removed in five days and slight bruising, if at all, fades after ten to twelve days.

Usually done with anesthesia, patients are often home after a few hours. Surgery to correct blocked breathing of the nose is frequently covered by insurance and will gladly be filed by the office.

Rhinoplasty Recovery Time

The majority of patients return to work or school in one week. Little postoperative pain has been the rule, however, ample medication is provided if discomfort is present. Patients often describe the worst part of their procedure as stuffiness similar to a cold during the first week. After this, breathing is greatly improved and the cosmetic result is readily appreciated as the dressing is removed. The swelling persists for several months and the final result can be appreciated progressively over the first year. Whether it is the elevation of a drooping tip, definement, and narrowing of a broad bulbous tip, or the lowering of a bump over the bridge, rhinoplasty has been a favorite of most patients.
